I started reading Democracy In Black right after I finished The New Jim Crow, and in many ways, it was a logical transition: Democracy In Black updates many of the topics of racial injustice explored in The New Jim Crow six years ago, tracing their courses up to the Black Lives Matter movement, and it expands on the personal, cultural, and political revolutions necessary to end racial injustice.

Eric Garner Non-Indictment Protest, Day Two

These are my tweets from the second day of protests in New York City after the non-indictment of the NYPD officer who killed #EricGarner. The NYPD was largely hands-off during the equally large protests after the non-indictment of the cop who killed Michael Brown in Ferguson, they quickly and violently cracked down on the protests over the #EricGarner non-indictment, using physical violence, pepper spray, and a Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD), or Sound Cannon, a weapon designed for the military and capable of causing permanent deafness.

Manslaughter Charge Dropped for Son Of NYPD Cop Accused of Killing Activist And Fleeing

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance this week dropped the manslaughter charge against the ex-con son of a well-connected NYPD family who was caught on video driving onto a sidewalk while texting before striking and killing an outspoken civil rights activist, then fleeing the scene on foot and evading police for more than two months, all while he was on parole after serving a three-year prison stint on drug charges.
